Month of the Young Child® – Early Years Are Learning Years

A time to celebrate and advocate! April, Month of the Young Child®, is an ideal time to advocate on behalf of young children. The 2009 MOYC® focus weeks provide opportunities to share specific information about young children’s growth, development and learning.

There are many ways you can help share the Early Years Are Learning Years™ message, including:


Sending a press release to local newspapers

 
Contacting local radio stations and asking them to promote local events and/or highlight one or more of the focus weeks

 
Asking local bookstores and businesses to offer a special promotion or discount for early childhood professionals during April

 
Collaborating with your local library, mall, or bookstore to provide a story time

 
Displaying children’s art in area restaurants, businesses, shopping centers, and the library, and asking parents to display their child’s art work at their places of employment

 
Inviting legislators and community leaders to visit your child care home, center or program to read to and with children

 
Sending a thank you note or email to a legislator or community leader who has been supportive of early childhood issues

 
Wearing purple, the color of MOYC

 
Talking to at least one person a week about the importance of the early years

 
Sharing information with your local Parenting Awareness group, PTA, school board or Great Start Collaborative – and asking what you can do to support their efforts on behalf of children and familiesVisit www.MiAEYC.org for more information about Month of the Young Child!
